Funky Credit Day is SMCBA’s premier educational event and is held every year for California attorneys who are actively practicing law. It is where you get those “funky,” hard to find credits, have a good time and meet with old friends. Our 2021 program will feature various presenters including attorneys and judges from San Mateo County Superior Court. This year, in consideration of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, we will deliver our annual event virtually.
This two-day Special MCLE Program will feature a total of 12 hours:
6 hours of Legal Ethics
2 hours of Competence Issues
3 hours of Recognition & Elimination of Bias
1 hour of General Law
$125 Early Bird Special*: Payment must be received by 11/30/2020

Please join the Women Lawyers’ Section as they host California Women Lawyers (CWL) board member Beth Mora for an informative and interactive presentation on CWL’s advocacy initiatives.
Beth Mora will provide a summary of 2019 California legislation, an overview of the CWL Legislative Committee’s 2019 work, and key steps taken in 2019 by the CWL Gender Equity Task Force to address gender equality within the practice of law in California. The speaker will provide a brief training on the lobbying process and how lawyers and law firms can promote gender equality.
The presentation will also highlight the activities of the CWL Legislative Committee and Gender Equity Task Force, as well as other advocacy avenues for members of the San Mateo County Bar Association wishing to become involved.

The New Attorneys Section of the SMCBA Estate Planning & Probate Section invites you to a luncheon with Jennifer M. Stier as she details various approaches attorneys may consider to modify or reform irrevocable Bypass Trusts. This CLE presentation will take place on August 15, 2019 from 12:00 pm to 1:15 pm at Judge Miram’s Courtroom – Dept. 28.
Jennifer Stier is a Principal and Director with Barulich Dugoni & Suttmann Law Group, Inc. She focuses her practice in estate planning, business planning, and estate administration, and also handles probate and conservatorships. Ms. Stier is a Certified Specialist in Estate Planning, Trust, and Probate Law, certified by the State Bar of California Board of Legal Specialization.

Join the Estate Planning & Probate Section on Thursday, July 18, 2019 for a presentation on Estate Planning For Same Sex and Unmarried Couples: 4 Years Post-Obergefell.
Alma Soongi Beck of Lakin Spears LLP will provide an overview of estate planning for LGBTQ People and unmarried couples, and its evolution over her 18+ years of practice in this area. The discussion will cover the evolving landscape of local, county, and state domestic partnership registration and recognition, property tax issues for people not married and not state-registered domestic partners, considerations for health care directives, and a practitioner’s perspective of planning in this area four years beyond the landmark U.S. Supreme Court decision in Obergefell v. Hodges.
Cost: $40 per person for members of the SMCBA Estate Planning Section who inform us in advance that they will attend and $55 for others. Cost includes lunch and 1 hour of MCLE credit.
