Please join the Estate Planning & Probate Section on Thursday, September 19, 2019, for a presentation on HEMS: Trust Distributions for Health, Education, Maintenance and Support and the limits of discretionary powers, presented by Kathleen Durrans and Krista Conover.

Description: This class will focus on the use of HEMS standards, and walk through various case scenarios.  

Presenter Kathleen A. Durrans is a shareholder of Aaron, Riechert, Carpol & Riffle, APC, and a Certified Specialist in Estate Planning, Trust, and Probate Law. Ms. Durrans is also a certified mediator and is a member of the San Mateo Probate ADR Program Panel. Ms. Durrans has been practicing in the areas of Estate Planning, Trust, and Probate Law since 1999. She is a graduate of the University of San Francisco School of Law, where she graduated Cum Laude. She was a member of the McAuliffe Honor Society and University of San Francisco Law Review. In 1998, she received the American Jurisprudence Award in Family Wealth Transfer Taxation.

Presenter Krista Conover is the Managing Director, Trust & Fiduciary Services of Boston Private. Ms. Conover brings more than a decade of trust and investment experience. Prior to joining Boston Private in 2004, Ms. Conover practiced law in San Jose, assisting clients to achieve their estate planning and business objectives. Prior to practicing law, Ms. Conover worked as a personal banker. Ms. Conover received her Bachelor of Arts in International Relations from University of California, Davis. She also received a JD from Santa Clara University’s School of Law. Ms. Conover is an active member of the California State Bar, the Silicon Valley Bar Association, the Financial Planning Forum and the San Francisco and Santa Clara County Estate Planning Councils. She also serves on the board of the El Camino Hospital Foundation and Santa Clara County Estate Planning Council.

Time: 12:00pm – 1:30pm

Cost: $40 per person for members of the SMCBA Estate Planning Section who inform us in advance that they will attend and $55 for others. Cost includes lunch and 1 hour of MCLE credit.

Please join the Family Law Section on Friday, September 13, 2019, for a presentation on Tips and Strategies for Drafting Child Custody Stipulations by Andrea Palash, Esq., CFLS, AAML.  

Description: Ms. Palash will provide tips and strategies for drafting child custody stipulations and discuss how to avoid future disputes. The speaker will go over examples of previous stipulations.

One hour of MCLE Credit will be provided for attendance.

WLS – Power Hour – Sept 6th

Join the Women Lawyers’ Section for “Power Hour,” where you will have the chance to have lunch and share with fellow members your experiences relating to gender equality in the legal profession. There will be a moderator to encourage the conversation, but it will be an open forum for members to meet one another and share and learn from one another’s experiences.
