Members of the SMCBA also have numerous opportunities to accumulate Minimum Continuing Legal Education (MCLE) hours throughout the year. If you’re a member of a section, you receive specially discounted rates to that section’s events! The Bar has many sections that relate to particular fields of procedural or substantive law (e.g. Barristers, Estate Planning and Probate, Family Law, Real Estate, etc.) and each section offers MCLE opportunities.

Additionally, the SMCBA offers Funky Credit Day once a year as an opportunity for members of the Bar to attend MCLE events in some of the more specialized areas, and earn those hard-to-obtain credits!

All Sections meetings are open to all Bar Association members and explore issues and developments in different areas of the law. The Bar Association is a California State Bar approved provider of Mandatory Continuing Legal Education and many of the Section programs qualify for MCLE credit.

San Mateo County Bar Association is an approved provider of legal specialization education credit for the following specialty areas of law: Criminal Law, Family Law and Estate Planning Trust & Probate Law.

Section dues are $30 per section and include any MCLE costs associated with meetings offered by each section (cost of lunch may or may not be included in this fee).
