San Mateo County Bar Association is a Multiple Activity Provider approved by the State Bar of California and our courses are automatically approved for CLE credit in California.
We are pleased to announce the launch of our new innovative way to fulfill your California educational requirements. All the programs listed have been approved by the State Bar of California for Mandatory Continuing Legal Education and meet the participatory education standards.
Attorneys are required to complete a total of 25 hours of approved credit every three years. Maximum “self-study” hours is 12.5 hours. Members must fulfill at least 12.5 hours of their MCLE requirement with activities approved for “participatory” MCLE credit.
Special Requirements within the total hours required (may be taken as participatory or self-study):
- Legal Ethics: 4 hours (required)
- Competence Issues: 2 hours (required) (1 hour of which must focus on prevention and detection and 1 hour of which may focus on attorney wellness)
- Elimination of Bias: 2 hours (required) (1 hour of which must focus on Implicit Bias/Bias-Reducing Strategies)
- Technology: 1 hour
- Civility: 1 hour

The compliance deadline is March 29 every three years. California attorneys are split into 3 groups based on last name at the time of admittance (A-G, H-M, N-Z). Each group has a specific three-year reporting period and deadline.
- Group 1 (A – G): 3/30/22 – 3/29/28
- Group 2 (H – M): 2/1/24 – 3/29/27
- Group 3 (N – Z): 2/1/23 – 3/29/26

Attorneys are responsible for tracking their own hours. The State Bar of California provides a Personal MCLE Log form you can download and use to keep track of your credit hours.
