Lawyer Referral ServiceOur LRS is a State Bar of California certified program (Certificate 0039).
The Lawyer Referral Service, for a nominal fee, provides callers with the name of an attorney who will provide a thirty-minute interview. The interview is an opportunity for the prospective client to explain the general nature of their legal problem, for the attorney to explain his/her fee structure and to determine if the case is one he/she wishes to pursue. To join the LRS, complete the LRS Application. If you would like to participate on one of the Specialty/Experience Panels on the list below, complete the appropriate Panel Application. Contact the Associate Executive Director at 650.298-4018 for assistance with the forms or for more information. Why join the LRS? The LRS can assist attorneys in increasing their client base. Each year the LRS sends approximately 3,000 referrals to more than 150 attorneys.The LRS is certified by the State Bar of California (Certificate 0039) and is a non-profit service.
Requirements: When attorneys join our LRS Panel among other things, they Maintain a law office within the geographical service area, defined as all of the County of San Mateo and the Palo Alto/Mountain View Judicial District of the County of Santa Clara. LRS clients may not be seen in a home office. Show that at least 25% of professional time and practice is devoted to and in the geographical service area. Must maintain malpractice insurance in the amount of $100,000/$300,000. A special policy is available covers the attorney for these limits only on cases from the LRS. Dues for memberships in the LRS for SMCBA members are as as low as $50 for base participation. Dues are higher for non-SMCBA members. Please mail original completed forms & fee to:
